US: Bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act signed into law
United StatesNorth AmericaOn the globe
Signed 11 July after passing the Senate 85–5 and House 358–32: the first major federal housing law in years, a $200m/year competitive grant programme rewarding localities that demonstrably increase housing supply, sunsetting after seven years, plus restrictions on institutional investors buying additional single-family homes.
A federal government paying localities to deregulate — carrots for YIMBYism rather than top-down targets — the mirror image of England's mandatory housing-targets row.
