Fort Worth votes unanimously to begin a data centre moratorium
United StatesNorth AmericaOn the globe
Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved a resolution initiating a 90-day data-centre construction moratorium, created an 11-member infrastructure commission, and adopted an ordinance requiring applicants to document grid-capacity approvals from Texas's utility regulator and grid operator — though the moratorium itself cannot take effect until February 2027, leaving developers a six-month window to beat the clock.
A low-tax, pro-growth, Republican-leaning Texas city pumping the brakes on the most politically favoured investment category in the West. The grid-capacity documentation requirement is the transferable idea: prove upstream capacity before local consent, relevant as UK data centres gain critical-infrastructure status.
