Sweden's centre-right bloc tightens family-migration income rules
SwedenNorthern EuropeOn the globe
Ahead of Sweden's 2026 election, the Moderates and Sweden Democrats — with support from the Christian Democrats — are campaigning on the country's most restrictive migration platform to date. Measures include capping asylum immigration at the EU minimum and raising the income requirement for family reunification to roughly 90% of median salary (about 33,000 SEK per month) from June 2026.
The proposals place Sweden among the strictest in Europe on family-migration thresholds, intensifying a continent-wide debate over how high income requirements for reunification should be set, and what trade-offs that creates between family rights and integration policy goals.
