Italy: cities sign formal "urban security pacts"
ItalySouthern EuropeOn the globe
Nine municipal "patti per la sicurezza urbana" — formal compacts between town halls and the state covering policing priorities, CCTV and coordination — were signed in L'Aquila province. In Cervia, the council unanimously approved an integrated security plan; Rome established a dedicated urban security commission.
Italy's pact model formalises who does what on local crime, where UK arrangements (PCCs, community safety partnerships) are diffuse — a template for a "town security compact" proposal for England.
