Udine: Fratelli d'Italia motion seeks local tax relief for shops hurt by long public works
Four Fratelli d'Italia councillors in Udine tabled a motion in September 2026 asking the mayor and executive to draft a municipal regulation supporting businesses hit by long-running public works. It cites Article 3(86) of national Law 549/1995, which lets municipalities cut their own taxes, up to full exemption, for shops and artisan workshops in areas closed to traffic by works lasting more than six months. The regulation would define eligible areas and support, and require visibility measures during works. No debate date has been reported.
The tool already exists in national law but is optional, so protection depends on each council choosing to use it. The trigger is objective: a traffic closure plus a duration threshold, not a case-by-case claim of lost trade. The open question is cost, since relief cuts local revenue.
