The Left (Die Linke) voted at a party conference in Berlin-Lichtenberg on 31 October 2026 to open coalition negotiations with the Greens and the SPD, which had approved opening negotiations the week before. Talks could begin as early as 2 November. The housing plan from the parties' exploratory paper would transfer about 160,000 flats owned by five large companies into public ownership against compensation, a step without precedent in Germany. The plan's terms are unchanged from the exploratory paper.
